About this course

Our Forklift Operator Safety Training delivers the essential skills and certified knowledge required to operate forklifts safely and confidently across warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing facilities, and construction sites. This comprehensive program addresses every critical stage of forklift operation, making it an important part of any complete workplace heavy equipment safety training strategy for businesses of all sizes.

What You Will Learn:

  • Forklift Equipment Fundamentals & Controls
  • Workplace Safety Hazards & Risk Mitigation
  • Pre-Operation Inspection Procedures
  • Load Handling, Stability & Operational Best Practices

Forklift Operator Safety Training (Counter Balance) is the intermediate-level course for sit-down counter-balance lift-truck operators who already hold seat time and want to deepen, refresh, or formally re-certify their competency. It is a strong fit for crews working in busy distribution centres, lumber and building-supply yards, and any site where loads are heavy, long, or stacked high.

The course concentrates on the situations that turn a routine lift into an incident: misread capacity plates, attachments that quietly reduce rated capacity, off-centre loads, ramp and dock transitions, and degraded floor or tyre conditions. You will work through load-centre calculations, stability under realistic loads, and route planning that keeps pedestrians clear.

Because CSA B335 and provincial OHS legislation call for periodic re-evaluation, this course doubles as the knowledge component of a three-year refresher. Pair it with the included on-site practical checklist and your operators stay current, documented, and audit-ready.

What you'll get

Intermediate, scenario-based lessons

Built for operators who already have seat time and want to handle tougher loads, tighter spaces, and grade work with confidence.

Load and capacity worksheets

Practical examples that show exactly how load centre and attachments cut into the capacity printed on the plate.

Counter-balance certificate and wallet card

Printable proof of training for Class IV and V counter-balance trucks, recognized by employers nationwide.

Re-evaluation checklist

A supervisor-ready form for the hands-on assessment CSA recommends at least every three years.

Self-paced access

Complete the roughly 90-minute course around your shift schedule on any device, returning whenever it suits you.

Audit-ready records

Your completion and score are stored and exportable, so safety paperwork is ready when a regulator or client asks.

Why choose us

This is not a repeat of an entry-level card. It is written for operators who already move loads every day and need to prove they can do it safely as conditions get harder, from derated attachments to wet dock plates and sloped yards.

Every scenario is grounded in CSA B335 and Canadian OHS practice, and the worksheets mirror the real capacity-plate decisions operators get wrong most often, so the training pays off the next time the load is awkward.

Good intermediate step up

Noticeably more depth than the basic course. A few more dock-work examples would round it out, but it got our experienced guys re-certified and thinking again.

Finally understood the data plate

Been operating for six years and never had anyone explain how an attachment drops your capacity. The worksheets cleared that up fast. Renewed my card with zero stress.

Marc-Andre T. · Jun 17, 2026

Perfect for our yard crew

We move long lumber loads on a sloped yard near Kamloops, so the ramp and load-centre sections were exactly what my team needed. Records exported clean for our COR audit.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the standard operator course?

The standard course establishes the fundamentals for new operators. This intermediate version assumes you already operate a counter-balance truck and focuses on harder loads, attachment derating, ramp and dock work, and re-evaluation.

Which trucks does it cover?

Sit-down counter-balance lift trucks, including electric and internal-combustion Class IV and V machines. It is not intended for reach trucks, order pickers, or rough-terrain forklifts.

Can I use this for my three-year refresher?

Yes. It satisfies the knowledge portion of the re-evaluation CSA recommends at least every three years. Combine it with the on-site practical evaluation to complete the cycle.

Do I get documentation for our safety files?

Absolutely. You receive a dated certificate and wallet card, and your completion record is exportable for OHS audits, client pre-qualifications, and internal training matrices.
